This study attempts to investigate the “chill-out” or lepak culture as practised by our youth and to examine the behaviour often associated with this culture.
This study was done in 1994 by Associate Professor Dr. Samsuddin A. Rahman and presented in a Report by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The result of this study showed that 18% of the 6,110 youth interviewed had friends who indulged in pre-marital sex. Low achievers showed a higher percentage of involvement in pre-marital sex, about 26%, as compared to high-achievers, about 17%. This was a direct result of the exposure of youth to pornographic materials, which are easily accessible. Almost 40% of the youth admitted to having viewed or read pornography.
