Age Group

HIV infection was still predominant among young people aged 20-29 years and 30-39 years as previous year. There were an increased proportion of reported HIV cases in 20-29 age groups but a reduced pattern in the 30-39 age group. This may be due o the fact that infections are among IDU's who are mostly young people age 20-39 years as well as sexually active.

The number of infants and children infected with HIV is also increasing. In 1990, there were only three reported cases of children infected with HIV. This figure increased to 10 cases in 1995, 39 cases in 1998 and to 403 cases in 2002.
