Sharing contaminated needles and having sex with drug addicts are the two main methods mode of AIDS transmission in this country. About 61.8% of reported cases of AIDS and 76.3% among those infected with HIV are drug addicts.
The main cause of infection is shared needles. More than 26.0% of AIDS cases and 13.0% of HIV carriers are infected through sexual activities. Since most AIDS victims are drug addicts who have an active sex life (some have families too), they are considered agents with the potential to spread HIV to their sexual partners and to their children. The spread of HIV through heterosexual means indicates a rising trend each year in this country.
