PATEK PROSTAR RUN (PAHANG, TRENGGANU, KELANTAN)

The PATEK PROSTAR 2000 run started in Tanjung Gemuk, Pahang, across the state of Trengganu and ended in Tumpat, Kelantan. The main purpose of this run was to broadcast information on AIDS and to promote PROSTAR to the public. The main activity was the Baton Run. Activities in conjunction with the Run:

•  Distribution of pamphlets •  An exhibition on Health •  A quiz on Health •  Cultural show •  Physical agility activities (Gymrama and Bicyclethon) •  Camping •  Gotong-royong •  Spiritual activities (religious and motivational talks and youth forum)

ASEAN SEMINAR ON HIV/AIDS PREVENTION & EDUCATION AMONG THE YOUTH, GRAND CONTINENTAL HOTEL, KUANTAN

This seminar was attended by delegates from ASEAN countries comprising Indonesia (4), Brunei (2), Singapore (1), Thailand (2), Myanmar (4), Cambodia (4), Philippines (2), Laos (4) and Malaysia (14) (Non-health agencies and 10 from Ministry of Health). The purpose of this seminar was to share information and experience and to strengthen the bond of cooperation on the HIV prevention program among the ASEAN's youth. Agenda:

•  The launching of seminar by the Y.Bhg. Dr. Ahmad Shukri b. Ismail, Health Exco, Youth and Sports, Pahang. •  Country Report (8 ASEAN countries) •  A briefing on PROSTAR •  Visit to the Pekan PROSTAR Clubhouse •  Visit to the ASM Factory PROSTAR Clubhouse •  Visit to PROSTAR Clubs in schools •  Visit to a Drugs Rehabilitation Centre •  Resolution and closing

NATIONAL PROSTAR CONVENTION, CAMERON HIGHLANDS , PAHANG

The 4 th National PROSTAR Convention was officiated by Y. Bhg. Mr. G. Sothinathan, the Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Health, representing the Minister of Health of Malaysia. With its theme, ‘Healthy Youth, Prosperous Nation”, the convention attracted 800 participants. The purpose of this convention was to promote the PROSTAR program as well as convening the yearly meeting of PROSTAR members from all over the country. Convention activities:

• Oration competition
• PROSTAR Ria sports
• Talent time/competition
• Presentation of working papers (on AIDS, youth and spirituality)
• Mini workshop – Presentation of PROSTAR resolution

NATIONAL WORLD AIDS CAMPAIGN, BANDAR HILIR, MALACCA.

The launching of the World AIDS Campaign at national level was officiated by Y. Bhg. Datuk Dr. Mohamad Taha b. Arif, Deputy Head Director of Health, at Padang Pahlawan, Bandar Hilir, Malacca. With its theme, “Men Make A Difference”, this year's campaign focussed on issues of men and HIV/AIDS. Activities in conjunction with the World AIDS Campaign:
